Dalby's Inferno
Dalby's Inferno is a backyard-style ultramarathon held in Dalby Forest. The 2026 event is the sixth running and consists of ten laps of a 5.5 km forest loop, making 55 km in total. The route for 2026 has been modified to increase the distance. The event raises funds for the Scarborough & Ryedale Mountain Rescue team.
The loop is a not-exactly-flat trail through the forest with the start and finish at the same location. Each lap starts on the hour and participants have one hour to complete a lap; runners who finish within the hour may start the next lap at the next hourly start. If a lap is not completed in time the runner sits out the next lap but may rejoin subsequent laps. Completing nine laps gains entry to the tenth final lap.
Entry includes free vehicle entry to Dalby Forest and two nights camping at Adderstone on the Friday and Saturday before the race. Camping is in the same field as the start/finish; toilets and fresh water are provided but there are no showers. One tent or campervan per entry; there is hard standing for campervans. Hot food and drinks will be available for purchase on the day. Barbecues are not allowed.
Other important details: minimum age 16, no dogs on the run (dogs may camp if well controlled), no deferrals or refunds, and participants may have the option to purchase event insurance for cancellation cover. A pre-order tech T-shirt is available for an additional fee with a set ordering cutoff; no T-shirts will be sold at the event.
