Event Overview
The Hardmoors 30 is an ultramarathon through the North York Moors, primarily utilizing the coastal landscape. The route covers approximately 31 to 32 miles and follows a course from Robin Hood’s Bay toward the edge of Scarborough. Participants navigate a mix of terrain, including the cliff-top paths of the Cleveland Way and the Cinder Track. The course involves a total ascent of approximately 3,400 feet (1,040 meters).
The event starts and finishes at Fylingdales Village Hall in Robin Hood's Bay. The route includes several key locations such as Ravenscar, Hayburn Wyke, Crookness, and Scalby Mills. There is a strict time limit of 11 hours to complete the distance.
Checkpoints and Logistics
The race features five intermediate checkpoints where runners must log in with marshals. These stations provide refreshments and food at the following intervals:
- Station Road, Ravenscar: 5 miles and 26 miles
- Crookness: 12 miles and 19 miles
- Scalby Mills: 14.5 miles
Specific cut-off times are enforced at later checkpoints. For instance, participants must reach Scalby Mills within 5 hours and the final Ravenscar checkpoint within 9.30 hours to continue.
Participation Requirements
This is a self-sufficient style event with a mandatory kit list. Runners must carry a waterproof jacket with taped seams, a headtorch, a whistle, a survival bag, a foil blanket, and an emergency food supply. A minimum of 500 ml of liquid and a personal cup for drinks at aid stations are also required. The event has a participant limit of 200 runners, and dogs are not permitted on the course.
Finishers receive a race medal and a T-shirt. Awards are presented across various categories, including top three male and female finishers, and age-group categories ranging from V50 to V70. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
