CVRR Backyard Ultra
The CVRR Backyard Ultra is an annual event held at the Comox Valley Exhibition Grounds in Courtenay, British Columbia. Participants run a marked 6.706 km loop through the forests and fields surrounding the venue. The race follows a specific format where runners must start a new lap every hour, exactly on the hour.
Participants continue to complete laps until they are no longer willing or able to continue. The distance of 6.706 km (one "yard") is designed so that completing 24 laps in 24 hours equals a total distance of 100 miles. Under standard Backyard Ultra rules, there is only one official finisher - the last person to complete a lap that no one else can finish.
A maximum limit of 30 yards (30 hours) is enforced for this event. If multiple runners are still active after completing 30 laps, a Mystery Challenge at the start-finish area serves as a tie-breaker to determine the final finisher.
An optional team category is available for groups of 3 to 5 people. While members run individually, their total laps are tallied to determine which team completed the most yards. Awards are presented for the highest team total and for the best costumes. On-site camping with water and electricity hookups is available for purchase for both Friday and Saturday nights.
