Currituck Salt & Sound Run/Walk : event description
The event at the Currituck County Rural Center in Powells Point, NC, offers three running distances on courses that run along water features and through rural areas near the Currituck Sound. The routes use multiple surfaces including boardwalks and straightaways, and they pass ponds, horse corrals and the kayak trail. The mixed surfaces may affect running speed.
Distances offered:
- 10 km: around the edge of the Currituck Sound via boardwalk, ponds and horse corrals
- 5 km: to the kayak trail edge, over boardwalk and around ponds and corrals
- 1 mile: boardwalk loop by the kayak trail; wheelchair, stroller and dog friendly
Courses are marked and use chip timing. Water stations and restrooms will be available along the routes. All finishers receive a race medal; the first 150 registrants receive a race t-shirt. Awards are given by overall place and by age divisions for the 10k and 5k, plus top placings for the 1 miler and a wheelchair division. A pancake breakfast, booths from community groups and an awards presentation follow the races.
The event supports local organizations including the Corolla Wild Horse Fund, Currituck 4H, Back Packs for Kids and Kid's First. Registration fees vary by distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
