Currituck Salt & Sound Race Details
The Currituck Salt & Sound event takes place at the Currituck County Rural Center in Powells Point, North Carolina. Participants can choose between three different distances that showcase the local landscape, including waterfowl, wetlands, and neighboring horse corrals. The courses utilize multiple surfaces and are chip timed with water stations and restrooms available for participants.
The available distances include:
- 10 km
- 5 km
- 1 mile
The 10 km and 5 km routes lead participants around the edge of the Currituck Sound and the kayak trail. These courses include sections on boardwalks, paths around ponds, and stretches along secondary streets that lead to the waterfront. The 1 mile event is an adventurous route that focuses on the Rural Center's boardwalk and kayak trail.
The event is open to both runners and walkers. Strollers and leashed dogs are permitted, and there is a specific category for wheelchair participants. All finishers across the three distances receive a medal. Following the races, there is a pancake breakfast, various informational booths from local organizations, and an awards presentation. This event provides support to the Corolla Wild Horse Fund, Currituck 4H, Back Packs for Kids, and Kid's First.
Trophies are awarded to the top overall male and female finishers in the 10 km and 5 km races, as well as the top two finishers in specific age categories ranging from 29 and under to 60 and over. The 1 mile race recognizes the top three male and female finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
