Crystal Lake Half Marathon & 12K
The event takes place on September 5, 2027 at Crystal Lake Main Beach, Lakeshore Drive, Crystal Lake, Illinois. Two race distances are offered:
- Half Marathon
- 12K, 7.44 miles
The course is USATF certified and runs from the Main Beach area through a loop around Lippold Park, past the Dole Mansion, along the Prairie Path, and finishes in downtown Crystal Lake. The venue is point to point; buses transport runners to the start with an approximate five minute ride. Indoor and beach side warm up areas are available.
Water stations are located every 1.5 miles, with Gatorade provided at miles 7.5, 9, 10.5, and 12. Bathrooms are at the start, Mile 5 (porta potty), Mile 11 (Prairie Path building), and the finish (porta potty). EMS and first aid support are available along the course and first aid kits are placed at various water stations. The route is marked with turn arrows on the ground and course marshals direct runners.
Race entries include a ticket for one beer or one non alcoholic beverage and a food ticket for either a slice of pizza or a power bowl to use at the Smith Running Academy after party. The after party takes place at Depot Park with music, sponsor booths, supplied beer for volunteers and racers, and food from Domino's and Duck a Diet. Age group awards for 1st through 3rd place in the Half Marathon are presented at the after party.
A four week Kids Run This Town program lets elementary aged children run 12 miles over four weeks and complete their 13th mile on race day to earn a half marathon finisher medal. Packet pick up occurs during race week. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
