Crystal Lake Aquathon - 2026
The Crystal Lake Aquathon returns for its ninth year on July 19, 2026, at Three Oaks Recreation Area in Crystal Lake, Illinois. The event is presented as the original Illinois aquathon and offers multiple timed swim-and-run options, single-distance swim events, relays, a kids race, and an adaptive swim.
Timed race options include:
- Sprint: 500 m swim, 5 km run
- Olympic: 1 mile swim, 10 km run
- 2 Mile Swim: swim only, timed
- 1 Mile Swim: swim only, timed, no awards
The swim takes place in a modified quarry with a course around three islands. The run course uses a mix of trail, sand, and pavement and will include a loop around the water. Wetsuits are permitted if water temperature is 78 degrees or lower, with a final decision made by City of Crystal Lake staff.
Kids' Race offers a shorter swim with a one mile run, includes swag, a swim cap, and a finisher's medal; lifeguards and a swim angel will be present and a relay option is available. The Adaptive Race is a one mile swim that allows physical support from family or friends and adaptive equipment as needed; finisher items and finish-line food are included.
Awards are presented for first through third place in the sprint, Olympic, and 2 mile swim events. Post-race food and beverages for participants and a celebration will take place overlooking Three Oaks. Proceeds benefit Girls on the Run of Northwest Illinois.
