Crystal Lake Aquathon - 2026
The Crystal Lake Aquathon returns for its ninth year at Three Oaks Recreation Area in Crystal Lake, Illinois on July 19, 2026. The event features multiple timed open-water races and shorter options for children and adaptive athletes. All proceeds benefit Girls on the Run of Northwest Illinois.
Race options include:
- Sprint Distance: 500 m swim and 5 km run
- Olympic Distance: 1 mile swim and 10 km run
- 2 Mile Swim only (timed)
- 1 Mile Swim only (timed)
- Kids Race: short swim and a 1 mile run
- Relay options for Sprint and Olympic distances
- Adaptive Race: one mile swim with allowed physical support and adaptive equipment
The swim course is in a modified quarry that routes swimmers around three islands. The run course uses mixed surfaces including trail, sand, and pavement. Wetsuits are permitted if the water temperature is 78 degrees Fahrenheit or lower; the City of Crystal Lake staff will make the water-temperature decision.
Packet pick-up is available at Smith Physical Therapy and Running Academy on the days before the event and at the race site on race morning. Post-race food and a participant-only gathering will be held at Three Oaks. Awards will be given for first through third places in the Sprint, Olympic, and 2 Mile Swim events. Kids, adaptive, relay, and the 1 mile swim events do not receive awards. The 2026 finisher medals are handmade by the local Girls on the Run chapter.
