Crystal Lake Aquathon - 2026
The Crystal Lake Aquathon returns for its ninth year at Three Oaks Recreation Area in Crystal Lake, Illinois on July 19, 2026. The event is a multi-distance aquathon with timed swim and run formats; proceeds benefit Girls on the Run of Northwest Illinois.
Timed race options include:
- Sprint Distance: 500 meter swim and 5 km run
- Olympic Distance: 1 mile swim and 10 km run
- 2 Mile Swim: swim only, timed
- 1 Mile Swim: swim only, timed
The swim takes place in a modified quarry that routes around three islands. The run course uses a mix of trail, sand, and pavement; organizers note a new run course that loops around the water. Wetsuits are permitted if water temperature is 78 degrees Fahrenheit or lower, with the decision made by City of Crystal Lake staff.
There is a separate Kids Race for children that combines a shorter open-water swim with a one-mile run; lifeguards and a swim angel will be in the water and a relay option is available. The Adaptive Race is a one-mile swim; participants may use adaptive equipment and receive physical support only from family or friends.
Awards will be presented for first through third place in the Sprint, Olympic, and 2 Mile Swim events. There are no awards for kids, adaptive, relay, or the 1-mile swim. A post-race gathering overlooking Three Oaks will provide food and beverages for participants only.
Packet pick-up is offered Friday 7/17 (3:00pm-6:00pm) and Saturday 7/18 (9:00am-12:00pm) at Smith Physical Therapy and Running Academy, and Sunday 7/19 (6:00am-7:00am) at Three Oaks Recreation Center. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
