Crystal Lake Aquathon - 2026
The Crystal Lake Aquathon is scheduled for July 19, 2026 at Three Oaks Recreation Area in Crystal Lake, Illinois. This is the ninth edition of the event and all race proceeds benefit Girls on the Run of Northwest Illinois.
The event offers multiple timed swim and run formats, plus kids, relay, and adaptive options:
- Sprint Distance: 500 m swim and 5 km run
- Olympic Distance: 1 mile swim and 10 km run
- 2 Mile Swim: swim only, timed
- 1 Mile Swim: swim only, timed (no awards)
- Kids Race: short swim and a one mile run
- Relay options for sprint and Olympic distances
- Adaptive Race: one mile swim only, with support allowed
The swim takes place in a modified quarry with a course routed around three islands. The run combines trail, sand, and paved surfaces. Wetsuits are permitted when water temperature is 78 degrees or lower; the City of Crystal Lake staff will make the wetsuit decision based on water temperature.
Packet pick-up is available at Smith Physical Therapy and Running Academy prior to race day and at the race site on the day of the event; race-day check-in is required to receive timing chips. Awards for first through third place will be presented for the sprint, Olympic, and 2 mile swim events. The kids, adaptive, relay, and 1 mile swim events do not receive awards. A post-race gathering with food and beverages for participants is planned, and Three Oaks offers on-site amenities such as boat and board rentals, playgrounds, and fishing.
