Crystal Lake Aquathon - 2026
Crystal Lake Aquathon returns to Three Oaks Recreation Area in Crystal Lake, Illinois. The event offers multiple timed swim and run formats and raises funds for Girls on the Run of Northwest Illinois. The swim takes place in a modified quarry that routes around three islands; the run follows a mix of trail, sand, and pavement. Wetsuits are permitted when water temperature is 78 degrees Fahrenheit or lower, with the City of Crystal Lake staff making the final determination.
Timed options include:
- Sprint distance: 500 meter swim and 5K run
- Olympic distance: 1 mile swim and 10K run
- 2 mile swim only
- 1 mile swim only, timed without awards
Additional entries include relay options, an adaptive one mile swim with allowance for family support or adaptive equipment, and a children's race that pairs a short swim with a one mile run for younger participants. Packet pickup is available at Smith Physical Therapy and Running Academy and on race morning at Three Oaks.
Awards are presented for first through third place in the sprint, Olympic, and 2 mile swim events. There are no awards for the kids, adaptive, relay, or 1 mile swim events. A post-race gathering will provide food and beverages for participants. Finisher medals for 2026 are handmade by the local Girls on the Run chapter and will be individually unique.
