Cruel Jewel 50
The Cruel Jewel 50 is a point-to-point trail ultramarathon held in the Chattahoochee National Forest in the North Georgia Mountains on May 15, 2027. The route travels from the Byron Herbert Reece Heritage Farm area near Blairsville to Camp Morganton near Blue Ridge and passes through hardwood forests, ferns, old-growth poplar, ridge lines and rocky, root-strewn singletrack. Notable course features include a historic steel bridge over the Toccoa River and a section called the Dragon’s Spine.
The course is reported as roughly 56 to 58 miles in total and is described as a mix of trail and mountain road terrain, with approximately 50 miles of trails plus several miles of mountain roads. There are 10 staffed aid stations along the route. The race lists about 15,000 feet of elevation gain and 15,000 feet of loss.
A paid shuttle from the finish to the start is available by reservation. Lodging options include nearby hotels in Blue Ridge and dormitory-style bunks at the finish facility; Camp Morganton also offers primitive campsites and a group-shelter restroom. Weather in May can vary and may include rain with typical temperatures around 50°F to 75°F.
