Event
The Coyote Ugly event is a trail race at Mulberry Gap Adventure Basecamp in Ellijay, Georgia, within the Cohutta Wilderness. The event offers two distances:
- 30k - approx 19 miles, 2,900 ft climbing
- 50k - approx 30 miles, 4,400 ft climbing
Course and logistics
Both distances begin on gravel road for almost 2 miles, then climb Pinhoti 2 for about 4 miles to a gravel forest service road and the first aid station. Runners follow less than a mile of gravel before climbing Pinhoti 1 for almost 4 miles to the Bear Creek section. A 0.2-mile out-and-back reaches an aid stop, then runners climb to the top of Bear Creek, crossing several creeks. After the aid station the courses split: the 30k descends gravel back to Mulberry Gap passing Bear Creek overlook and Barnes Creek Falls; the 50k descends 0.5 miles, returns to Bear Creek trail for a loop, then re-passes the trailhead aid station and climbs back via Pinhoti 1 and Pinhoti 2 to finish.
Aid stations provide water, electrolytes, snacks (chips, candy, gummy bears/worms), pb&j, grilled cheese or quesadillas at the top of Bear Creek, avocado tortillas, soda and pickles/juice. Cutoffs are 7 hours for the 30k and 10 hours for the 50k; each aid station enforces hard cutoffs. Organizers allow refunds up to one month before the event, a two-year pregnancy deferral for women, and half-credit to a future race after 30 days; volunteers receive future entry and swag.
