Coyote Ugly 30k & 50k

The Coyote Ugly 30k and 50k are trail races in the Cohutta Wilderness that start and finish at Mulberry Gap Adventure Basecamp in Ellijay, GA. Both routes begin by following gravel road for almost two miles, then climb Pinhoti 2 for about four miles to a gravel forest service road and the first aid station. Runners follow gravel for under a mile before climbing Pinhoti 1 for nearly four miles to the Bear Creek section. A 0.2 mile out-and-back leads to the next aid stop, followed by a climb to the top, crossing several creeks and reaching an aid station where the two distances split.

Distances:

• 50K: approximately 30 miles, about 4400 feet of climbing.
• 30K: approximately 19 miles, about 2900 feet of climbing.

The 30K route descends gravel back to Mulberry Gap, passing Bear Creek overlook and Barnes Creek Falls. The 50K route reenters Bear Creek trail, loops the back side on rolling double track, returns to the trailhead aid station, then climbs back up Pinhoti 1 and follows gravel to Pinhoti 2 before finishing at Mulberry Gap.

Organizers set a 10 hour cutoff for the 50K and a 7 hour cutoff for the 30K, which corresponds to an overall pace near 20 minutes per mile. Aid stations will offer typical ultra fare including water, electrolytes, snacks, grilled cheese or quesadillas, avocado tortillas, soda, and other items. Volunteers are offered future race entry and swag as compensation. Registration refund and deferral policies allow refunds up to one month before the event, a two year pregnancy deferral for women, and half credit to a future race after 30 days; bib transfers are restricted when a waiting list exists.
