Event overview
The Coyote Ugly 30k and 50k is a trail running event based at Mulberry Gap Adventure Basecamp in Ellijay, Georgia, in the Cohutta Wilderness. The event offers two distance options:
- 30k
- 50k
Entry and event details are managed through the race website. Volunteers are offered future race entry and event swag as a reward for roles such as sweeping, staffing aid stations, or assisting at the finish.
Course and logistics
Both distances follow the same initial route: nearly 2 miles on gravel road, a climb on Pinhoti 2 of about 4 miles to a gravel forest service road and the first aid station, then a short gravel section before climbing Pinhoti 1 (almost 4 miles) to the Bear Creek section. There is a 0.2 mile out-and-back to an aid stop, then a climb across the top of Bear Creek with several creek crossings. An aid station sits at the top before the courses split.
The 30k route descends gravel back to Mulberry Gap via Bear Creek overlook and Barnes Creek Falls, described as approximately 19 miles with about 2,900 ft of climbing. The 50k route includes additional sections on Bear Creek trail and a return over Pinhoti 1, described as about 30 miles with about 4,400 ft of climbing.
Aid stations provide water, electrolytes and typical ultra fare such as chips, candy, pb&j, grilled cheese/quesadillas, avocado tortillas, and soft drinks. Cutoffs are 7 hours for the 30k and 10 hours for the 50k. Refund and deferral policies include refunds up to one month before the event, a two-year pregnancy deferral for women, and a half-credit option after 30 days out; bib transfers are restricted when a waiting list exists.
