About the race
Crate Escape Ballymena is a men-only, charity fun run that raises funds for AWARE NI, the depression charity for Northern Ireland. The event pairs participants into two-person teams who complete a two-mile course while carrying a beer crate.
The event is scheduled for Friday 28 August at Ballymena Rugby Club. Although the activity is light-hearted, the event carries a serious message: it aims to create a relaxed, supportive environment that encourages men to open up about their mental health and to have conversations while taking part in a shared physical challenge.
Organisers acknowledge support from Ballymena Running Club and Ballymena Rugby Club. Non-alcoholic beer for participants is being supplied by The Sober Irish. The event combines community engagement, physical activity, and fundraising for services that offer support, education and information for people living with depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder in Northern Ireland.
