Crackpots Trail Run
Crackpots Trail Run is an award winning community trail race held in Kirkby Malzeard in Nidderdale AONB. The route is described as 10km-ish and is presented elsewhere as about 11 km, combining quiet country lanes, footpaths, bridleways and moorland with several river crossings. The course rises to its highest point around the 6 km mark with wide views across Nidderdale and towards the North York Moors, then returns to the village for a mostly downhill finish after a stretch on tarmac just after 9 km.
The event is part of the Kirkby Malzeard Family Festival and includes family friendly activities, food stalls and live music in the village. The race is fully marshaled, way marked with flags approximately every 100 m, and is plastic bottle free so runners should bring their own cup. There are five water crossings along the route and water is provided at about 6.8 km and at the finish. Chip timing is provided by an external timing service and a free pie and a cuppa are included at the finish.
Entry fees cover event costs, timing and food: entries before 1 Jun 2026 are £25 and entries from 1 Jun 2026 are £30. Cash prizes are offered for top finishers and specific local and club categories. The event is licensed and enforces a two hour cut off. Use of audio devices is not permitted and will result in disqualification. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
