Crackpots Trail Run
The Crackpots Trail Run is a multi-terrain running event held in the village of Kirkby Malzeard, near Ripon in North Yorkshire. The race route covers a distance of approximately 11 km and takes place within the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The course is characterized by undulating terrain that includes a combination of quiet country roads, off-road trails, and scenic moorland.
Participants encounter five water crossings along the route. The course is fully way-marked with flags placed every 100 meters to assist with navigation. This is a plastic bottle-free event, and runners are required to provide their own cups for water at the stations. The event is chip-timed and has an entry limit of 300 participants.
The run coincides with the Kirkby Malzeard Family Fete, which features a variety of amenities including:
- Street food and an artisan market
- A real ale bar
- Live music performances
- Family activities and games
Facilities at the Race HQ located at Highside Playing Fields include toilets, changing facilities, showers, and baggage storage. Free parking is available near the start line. Upon completing the course, runners receive a handmade medal produced at the local village pottery, along with a pie and a hot drink. Due to the terrain and nature of the trails, the course is not suitable for wheelchairs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
