History and community programs
The Cowtown Race began in 1979 with a 10K and a full marathon. Additional distances were added over time: a 5K in 1998, a Kids 5K in 2003, a half marathon in 2005, and an ultra marathon in 2008. The event launched the C.A.L.F. program in 2009 to promote health and fitness in local communities. That program now spans 16 school districts, serves about 5,000 students each year, and has donated over 65,000 pairs of running shoes to date.
