Event Details
The Countdown to One challenge takes place at Long Branch Park in Syracuse. Participants run as many one-mile loops as possible, with each mile needing to be completed faster than the last. The event is a competition to determine the last male and female runner standing.
The Challenge Format
Runners start with a one-mile loop that must be completed within a specific time to continue. The pace requirement gets faster with each subsequent mile. The competition has categorized stages:
- Bronze: Complete four miles with times of 15, 13, 11, and 10 minutes or less.
- Silver: Complete the next four miles with times of 9.5, 9, 8.5, and 8 minutes or less.
- Gold: Complete the next four miles with times of 7.5, 7, 6.5, and 6 minutes or less.
If necessary to find a winner, the time requirement per mile continues to drop by 30 seconds. There is a one-minute break between each mile. Runners who complete a mile under the required time can rest, stretch, and refuel before the next loop.
Awards and Logistics
All participants receive a finisher medal. Runners who complete a category (Bronze, Silver, or Gold) receive a corresponding pin to attach to their medal. The top male and top female finisher each receive a $125 cash prize. Packet pickup is available on race day at Long Branch Park.
