Event Overview
Countdown to One! Last Man Standing is a elimination-style running event held in Syracuse at Long Branch Park. The competition follows a unique format where participants run a 1 mile loop repeatedly. Each mile has a strict time requirement that decreases as the event progresses. If a runner fails to complete a mile within the allotted time, they are removed from the competition.
The challenge is divided into achievement categories based on the number of miles completed:
- Bronze: Completion of miles 1 through 4 with time limits ranging from 15 to 10 minutes.
- Silver: Completion of miles 5 through 8 with time limits dropping from 9.5 to 8 minutes.
- Gold: Completion of miles 9 through 12 with time limits dropping from 7.5 to 6 minutes.
If several participants remain after 12 miles, the time requirement for each subsequent mile decreases by 30 seconds until only one person remains. There is a one-minute break between each mile leg, allowing participants time to rest or refuel. All runners who take part receive a finisher medal, and those who complete specific categories earn pins (Bronze, Silver, or Gold) to attach to their medal.
The event takes place at 371 Long Branch Rd, where lot parking is available for participants. The top male and female finishers are awarded cash prizes. The event also serves as a fundraiser for Team Red, White & Blue, an organization supporting military veterans. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
