Mountain Goat Run in Syracuse
The Mountain Goat Run is an annual road-racing event in Syracuse, New York, presented as the 49th edition in 2027. The event base is The Atrium at Clinton Square, and the weekend centers on a signature 10 Mile road race that runs on local streets and includes substantial hill sections.
Race weekend includes multiple event formats: the 10 Mile, a Two Person Relay, a Kids Run (timed half mile), the Hall of Fame Mile (1 Mile), a Family Pet Walk, a Virtual 10 Mile, SuperGoat and NannyGoat park runs, and the Goat 4 Life event. The course passes through or near several parks named for the event route, including Woodland Reservoir, Lincoln, Burnet and Thornden Park. Organizers note music and live entertainment along the 10 mile course and a post-race gathering on race day.
The event is organized by a volunteer-run nonprofit. It awards cash prizes for new course records and recognizes repeat participation with GOAT 4 Life status. The Mountain Goat Run also supports local organizations and charities, with listed beneficiaries including the American Heart Association, Downtown YMCA, Greater Strathmore Neighborhood Association, Section III scholarships for runners, Syracuse City School District Team United, the MOST museum, Upstate Foundation, and others.
Founded in 1979, the event is described as a recurring community road race that combines varied race formats, neighborhood streets and park routes, on-course entertainment, and charitable contributions. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
