About the race
The Corona Classic is a 10-mile running event that began in 2020 when in-person races disappeared. It uses staggered starts based on each runner’s predicted finish time: slower predicted times start earlier and faster predicted times start later so that, in theory, many runners reach the finish at similar moments. The course is an out-and-back from Blue Sky Endurance to Stella Maris Church on Sullivan's Island, using open roads and sidewalks. Roads are not closed for the event; participants must obey all traffic laws.
Runners may encounter traffic lights, pedestrians, or a drawbridge opening. Such delays are part of the event and will not change recorded results. Timing at the finish is by a running clock. Registration for the listed race is free.
Entrants submit a predicted finish time that determines their start wave. Two prediction categories are offered: the Prediction Challenge, where watches are allowed, and the Naked Prediction Challenge, where no watch, phone, or other pacing device may be used. Awards include overall finishers (first three across the line), closest predictions, a prize for the last finisher, and a spirit award for a memorable participant. The event emphasizes honest predictions, sportsmanship, and a different format in which being first across the finish line is distinct from having the fastest elapsed time.
