Cornwall's Backyard Ultra : event description
Cornwall's Backyard Ultra is a timed loop endurance event held on Saturday 3 October 2026 near St. Eval and Bedruthan Steps in Cornwall. The format repeats a single loop: participants complete a lap every hour and continue until only one runner completes a further lap. All others are recorded as DNF and distance completed is recorded for each runner.
The course is a mix of Cornish country lanes and a half mile section along the Coast Path at Bedruthan Steps. The route includes a small lap run anti-clockwise and a larger lap run clockwise to capture coastal views. Part of the route crosses private farm tracks; runners are asked to stay on public footpaths and follow signage.
Distance per loop:
- 4.167 miles
- 6.7056 kilometers
- 6706.1364 metres
Event facilities and rules include a Race HQ field near St Eval Go Karts, on-site parking and non-electric camping available from Friday evening until the last lap is completed, and a kit check at registration. Minimum age to run laps is 18. Required kit includes at least 2 litres of water, nutrition, a mobile phone, waterproof or warm clothing and high visibility items; a head torch and rear light are required if running into darkness. Common aid stations are allowed but no personal aid during a loop. Organisers reserve the right to apply additional safety rules alongside official Backyard Ultra rules.
