Cornwall's Backyard Ultra
Cornwall’s Backyard Ultra is an open-ended backyard ultra held near Bedruthan Steps and St Eval, with the Race HQ field close to St Eval Go Karts. The event date is Saturday 3th October 2026. Camping is available onsite.
The format uses a single loop of about 4.167 miles ( 6.7056 kilometers ). Each lap starts on the hour and must be completed within the hour to count. The last person to complete a loop more than any other runner is the winner; all other competitors are recorded as DNF. Results record distance covered for each runner. The course is mainly on Cornish country lanes with approximately half a mile along the Coast Path at Bedruthan Steps and is described as undulating rather than steep. Start and finish of each lap are in the Race HQ field.
Organisers will follow the official backyard ultra rules: a fixed starting corral, no personal aid during a loop (common aid stations allowed), no non-competitors on course, no artificial aids including trekking poles, and slower runners must allow passes. Timing of loops is optional. Part of the route crosses private farm track; reconnoitre runs should stay on footpaths and follow signage.
Entry and safety measures include an on-site kit check. Mandatory items include a minimum 2 litres of water, nutrition, mobile phone, waterproof/ warm clothing and high-visibility gear for low light. To start a lap into darkness or poor visibility, a head torch, rear light and high-visibility clothing are required. Provided on site: water, snacks, a timing tracker, parking, camping without electric hook-up, trophies and rule enforcement. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
