Cornhill Highland Games - Fernie Race
The Fernie Race is part of the Cornhill Highland Games and provides separate distances for children and adults on a route that uses village streets and the Fernie road. Both race formats begin with a short lap of the Games arena before leaving the village, include a gradual climb on Fernie road of about 1K, then follow a downhill section back toward the village.
Distances:
- Under 12s - 3K (1 lap)
- Under 16s - 3K (1 lap)
- Adults (16+) - 6K (2 laps)
Children complete a finishing lap of the Games arena on return. Adults complete a second lap of the Fernie loop before returning for a finishing lap of the Games arena. The race takes place on public roads; there will be marshals and the Fernie road will be closed to traffic for safety. Runners are encouraged to keep to the right and use of headphones is not recommended. All runners remain responsible for their own safety and awareness of other road users.
Registration is located at a gazebo near the main car park gate. Toilets are available at the Cornhill Highland Games. Entry fees are £5 for under 12s, £5 for under 16s and £12 for adults (16+). Entry includes a medal, a goodie bag and water and free entry to the Highland Games. Prize money and trophies are awarded in each age group and gender, sponsored by NFU Mutual Aberdeen City and Shire. No refunds are offered for withdrawn entries.
