Races at Cornhill Highland Games
The Fernie Race returns to the Cornhill Highland Games on Saturday 6 June 2026. The event is organised with separate race categories and prize payments for each category.
Race categories:
- Under 12 years: 1 lap (3k)
- Under 16 years: 1 lap (3k)
- Adults 16 years and over: 2 laps (6k)
Prize money is awarded to the first three male and female finishers in each category. Prize levels are:
- Under 12 years and Under 16 years: £20, £10, £5 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd
- Adults 16+ years: £30, £20, £10 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd
Entry fees are set by age group: Under 12s £5, Under 16s £5, Adults (16+) £12. Entry includes a medal, a goodie bag and water, and free entry to the Cornhill Highland Games.
There are also free children’s races in the arena, including running races for children up to 12 years and sack races for children aged 5 to 12. Participants should assemble at the side of the arena and wait for an official before entering.
The Knock Hill Race is no longer held after its final running in 2025. Historically it covered about 8.5 miles, had a minimum age of 16, awarded prize money to top finishers and required completion within a specified time to receive a participation medal.
