Fernie Race and other running events
The Fernie Race returns to the Cornhill Highland Games on Saturday 6 June 2026. The event stages separate race categories with short loop distances and prize money for top finishers.
Race categories:
- Under 12 years - 1 lap (3k)
- Under 16 years - 1 lap (3k)
- Adults 16+ years - 2 laps (6k)
Prize money is awarded to the first three male and female finishers in each category. Prizes are: Under 12 and Under 16 categories £20, £10, £5 for first to third; Adults 16+ category £30, £20, £10 for first to third. Entry fees are listed per category: Under 12s £5, Under 16s £5, Adults (16+) £12. The entry fee includes a medal, a goodie bag and water, and free entry to the Cornhill Highland Games. Entries are taken in advance online and there is a stated closing date for applications of 1 June 2026.
There are free children’s races in the arena that include running races for children up to 12 years and sack races for children aged 5 to 12. The historic Knock Hill Race was last held in 2025; it covered 8.5 miles and will no longer take place. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
