27th Cornhill Highland Games
The Cornhill Highland Games is a local community event held in Cornhill, near Banff, in Aberdeenshire. It is a member of the Royal Scottish Highland Games Association (RSHGA) and the Grampian Highland Games Association. The event features a wide variety of traditional activities, including heavy events, tug o’ war, highland dancing, and pipe bands.
Running Events
The Games include several running competitions for different age groups. The Fernie Race involves multi-lap courses on a 3 km circuit:
- 3 km (1 lap) for participants under 12 years.
- 3 km (1 lap) for participants under 16 years.
- 6 km (2 laps) for adults aged 16 and over.
Participants in the Fernie Race receive a medal, a goodie bag, and water. Entry to this race also includes access to the Highland Games. Prize money is awarded to the first three male and female finishers in each category. Online registration for these distances is available in advance.
In addition to the timed races, the event hosts free-to-enter children's races in the main arena. these include short running races for children up to 12 years old and sack races for those aged 5-12.
Information for Visitors
The event is held on a games field with free parking available adjacent to the site. Entry tickets for the general public can be purchased at the gate on the day.
