Conquer The Beast
Conquer The Beast is scheduled for May 1, 2027 and is organized by BTR at Willow Creek State Recreation Area near Pierce, NE. Willow Creek SRA sits on the 700 acre Willow Creek Reservoir and is managed by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. The park is about 4 miles southwest of Pierce and about 15 miles northwest of Norfolk.
The event uses the Last Beast Standing format. Competitors must complete the same 4.167 mile loop in less than one hour to continue racing. The loop is repeated hour after hour until only one runner completes the required loop within the one hour time limit. The final runner to complete a lap is the winner; all other competitors receive a DNF.
The course is a 4.167 mile loop consisting primarily of crushed limestone. Runners return to the Start/Finish area each hour to begin the next loop.
Food and hydration are provided throughout the event. Available items include chips, cookies, nuts, boiled potatoes, candy, fresh fruit, vegetables, grilled cheese made to order, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or wraps, hummus, and pickles. Tailwind Nutrition sports drink will be the primary electrolyte drink. Beverages include water, coffee, pickle juice, and ice. Vegan and vegetarian hot meal options are available.
Camping options at Willow Creek SRA include Electric Plus, Electric, Basic, Equestrian Electric Plus, and Equestrian Basic. Amenities include picnic tables, fire rings and grills, drinking water, a dump and fill station, modern restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities. About half of the campsites accept reservations; the remainder are first come first served with check or cash payment via iron rangers. The dump and fill station is located in the town of Pierce, about 5 miles from the lake.
Crew support is restricted to the Start/Finish area at Day Use Area 2; crewing on the course is not allowed. Participants receive a Dri Fit race shirt, a speed cup, and head bands. Every participant receives a commemorative race medal. Male and female champions receive a custom Last Beast Standing belt buckle, free entry to a future Beast Trail Racing event, and a custom top plaque.
