The Cowboy 200
The Cowboy 200 is a point to point footrace on Nebraska’s Cowboy Trail with two distance options. The route is a rails to trails corridor made mostly of crushed limestone or crushed gravel, and is described as non-technical, 100% runnable and very flat.
- 200-mile point to point from Norfolk to Valentine
- 100-mile option starting in Atkinson
Runners pass through rural towns and preserved railroad features including depots, a water powered gristmill, and many former railway bridges. The trail includes over 200 bridges, with the largest reported at a quarter mile long and 148 feet high. The event provides 11 fully stocked aid stations, at least eight unmanned aid stations, and three designated sleep stations. Runners may sleep in crew vehicles or tents at full manned aid stations.
Event rules require entrants to be at least 18 years old, prohibit muling, ban littering, and require checking in and out of full aid stations. Runners and pacers must carry required gear and may not receive assistance outside designated full or crewed aid stations. Course cutoffs are listed for each distance and additional aid station cutoffs appear in the runner’s manual. Finishers receive event swag and distance specific buckles; the 200 mile event also includes a cash prize for overall winners and a bonus for a course record.
