The Cowboy 200 : Norfolk, NE
The Cowboy 200 is a point to point footrace on the Cowboy Trail in Nebraska with two distance options. The 200 mile route runs from Norfolk to Valentine along a rails to trails corridor; the trail surface is mostly crushed gravel and is described as non-technical, fully runnable, and flat. The event uses existing trail towns and infrastructure along the route, including many former railroad depots, bridges, and other historical features.
Distances:
- 200 mile: point to point from Norfolk to Valentine along the Cowboy Trail.
- 100 mile: course begins near Atkinson on the Cowboy Trail.
The race provides a network of support and rules. For the 200 mile course there are 11 fully stocked aid stations, at least eight unmanned aid stations, and three sleep stations; runners may sleep in crew vehicles or tents at all full/manned aid stations. Entry requires age 18 or older. Muling is prohibited and pacers may not carry items for runners. Runners must check in and out of full aid stations, carry required gear, remain on the designated course, avoid littering, and follow local laws and regulations. Time limits are listed for each distance, including an 84 hour cutoff for the 200 mile solo entry and a 32 hour cutoff for the 100 mile solo entry. Finishers receive event apparel, bags, and distance specific buckles; top finishers receive awards and cash prizes, and a beer is provided to finishers by a local brewery.
