Coeur d'Alene Triathlon, Duathlon, and Scenic Sprint
The event comprises three race formats held on and around Lake Coeur d'Alene in Idaho. Distances offered include the Olympic triathlon, a shorter sprint triathlon called the Scenic Sprint, and a duathlon with two running segments and a bike segment.
The Olympic triathlon covers a 1.5k swim, 40k bike, and 10k run. The Olympic swim uses a deep water start that begins with a cruise ship ride into the bay, a transfer to a barge for water entry, a swim to the starting buoys, and a return to shore. Lake Coeur d'Alene is described as stretching about 30 miles long and up to 3 miles wide.
The bike course for the 40k ride follows Coeur d'Alene Lake Drive and the Yellowstone Trail and includes uphill sections. The 10k run follows the Centennial Trail along the Spokane River and finishes in Coeur d'Alene City Park where food, awards, and a beer garden are available.
The Scenic Sprint is half the distance of the Olympic triathlon with a 0.5k swim, 20k bike, and 5k run and is presented as suited to beginner or novice athletes. The Duathlon follows a run bike run format with 5k run, 40k bike, and 10k run. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
