Walk, Run, Read for Literacy in Coeur d'Alene
This community event raises funds for The Literacy Project of North Idaho, a volunteer driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit. One hundred percent of race proceeds support local adult literacy and English language programs. The event takes place at Coeur d'Alene City Park / Fort Sherman Park.
The event program includes a paved 5K course that starts in the park, follows the Idaho Centennial Trail toward the Highway 95 bridge with a turnaround just before the bridge, and returns to the park. The route is paved, includes water stations, and permits strollers and wheelchairs. Pets are not allowed on the course.
The Kids Dash follows a roughly 0.5 mile loop within the park designed for young runners. A virtual run option is available for participants who wish to complete the distance remotely; virtual participants receive an event shirt. Children age 6 and under may participate in any event at no registration fee.
Other community activities include an annual book swap and sale with low cost purchases available, games and activities, and race support provided by volunteers in roles such as setup, aid station, and book sale assistance. Awards include prizes for the top three finishers in the 5K and medals for all Kids Dash participants.
