About the race

Run to the Castle Ultra is a coastal point to point running event based at Aberdovey Village Hall, Aberdovey LL35 0NR. The route follows the coastal path and passes the seafront at Tywyn, the village of Fairbourne, Fairbourne bridge, and Barmouth before finishing in the castle town of Harlech.

The event is scheduled for Saturday 14 August 2027 and is also held in January 2027. Registration and bag drop are available on race morning. The start is about 200 yards from Aberdovey train station and the village car park; Harlech station is about 200 yards from the finish. Trains on the connecting service run approximately every 90 to 120 minutes. One bag per runner will be transported from the start to the finish area.

Entry fee covers a fully recceed course, food and drinks at four separate checkpoints, and a finishers medal; results are published online after the race. The course is very well signed and consists of beach, tracks, and pavements. There is a 12 hour time limit. Compulsory kit includes a rucksack and bladder or bottle to carry at least 1 litre of water, emergency food, a fully charged mobile phone, waterproof jacket, whistle, a map of the area and compass, and a first aid kit.
