Coastal Walk & 5K Run at Assateague State Park
The Coastal Walk & 5K Run is an annual community event presented by Beachwood, Inc. Custom Builders and sponsored by Assateague State Park and Maryland Park Services. The event benefits the Macky & Pam Stansell House of Coastal Hospice, an inpatient facility located on the Isle of Wight Bay in Ocean Pines, Maryland.
Participants may choose from the following distances:
- 2 Mile Walk
- 5K Run
The 5K course begins on a paved bike path for about one mile and continues on the beach for the remainder of the route. Runners may use hard sand near the water or run near but not on the dunes on softer sand. The 2 mile walk is entirely on the paved bike path and follows an out-and-back layout. A course map is provided by the organizer.
Registration includes a dri-fit long sleeve shirt. Medals are awarded to placing participants in each age category. The posted registration fee is $35 per participant and sponsorship opportunities are available. The event location is listed as Assateague State Park campground day use at 6915 Stephen Decatur Hwy, Berlin, MD. Friendly dogs are permitted if leashed; organizers note plants with thistles along parts of the course and that many participants put shoes on their dogs.
