Cleveland Survival 2026

The Cleveland Survival is an orienteering based event open to runners and walkers on the North York Moors. The route is a single course this year of around 20 to 24 miles and must be completed within a time limit. The precise event location is released about one week before the event.

The course is presented as a series of checkpoints identified by a grid reference and description. Participants must visit each checkpoint and via point in the order given on the route card. The event can be completed individually or as part of a group.

Checkpoints are manned by Search and Rescue personnel; drinks are available at some checkpoints and a hot meal is provided for all at the finish. Dogs are not allowed. The organizers ask participants to bring a mug to reduce landfill.

The route takes in the highs and lows of the North York Moors and the time of year means weather can be inclement. Navigation skills and self care are required. The following kit is considered essential: map and compass, emergency food, survival bag, whistle, windproofs and full waterproofs, plus a mug for drinks.

The event serves as a major fundraiser for Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team. This will be the 41st running and it takes place during the team’s 60th year. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
