The Clemson 8 Challenge is an in-person, officially timed run held around the Clemson University campus on February 27, 2027, plus a virtual edition from February 27 to March 6, 2027. The event is open to the general public; Clemson students are asked to use their local address when registering.
Distances offered include:
- 800 m Kids run
- 8K (4.97 miles) Run/Walk
- 8 miles Run/Walk
- 8 miles ROTC Ruckers (current cadets receive a complimentary T-shirt)
- 8 miles Virtual Run/Walk (complete in one day or across eight days)
Participant packets include a 100% cotton T-shirt, a wooden nickel, a race bib, and a window decal. Registration opens November 11, 2026 and closes February 27, 2027. High school JROTC teams may complete their challenge through April 9, 2027. Virtual challenge results can be submitted from March 11 through March 18.
The challenge was created to allow a Clemson veteran who participated in the Bataan Memorial Death March to continue his annual pilgrimage from Clemson; the number eight represents the miles he most often walked in that event. Every race day participant will have an opportunity to win merchandise linked to the Bataan Memorial Death March.
One hundred percent of proceeds benefit Clemson University's military affiliated student organizations. Previous Challenges raised $139,628.54 and the 2027 fundraising goal is $19,420. Dividends and donations will support teams competing in the Bataan Memorial Death March in New Mexico. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
