Event Overview
The City of Champions Fire Tactics and 5K is a combined athletic and educational event taking place in Brockton. The program brings together physical fitness and professional fire service knowledge, featuring a run/walk followed by a specialized fire tactics lecture. The event is open to both fire service members and the general public.
The athletic portion consists of a 5K race that begins and ends at Keating Hall, which serves as the home of Brockton Firefighters Local 144. Runners and walkers can participate in several divisions:
- 5K Race: Individual entry for the 3.1-mile course.
- Firefighter Team Challenge: Competition for three-person firefighter teams.
- Age Group Divisions: Categories including Under 15, 15-25, 26-40, 41-50, and 51-Over.
Fire Tactics Lecture
Following the race, the event hosts a professional development session titled "Coordinating Ventilation: Supporting Extinguishment & Survivability." This lecture is presented by Deputy Chief Nicholas Papa of the New Britain Fire Department. The course focuses on fireground operations, specifically examining the relationship between ventilation and fire behavior to improve decision-making and victim survivability.
Participants may choose to register for the 5K race only, the lecture only, or a combination package that includes both activities. Refreshments are available inside the union hall, and pizza is provided for those attending the lecture. Proceeds from the event benefit the LND Foundation.
