Event Overview
The City of Champions Fire Tactics and 5K combines a running event with a professional development lecture. It takes place on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at 80 Perkins Avenue in Brockton, Massachusetts.
Event Components
Participants can choose from three separate registration options:
- 5K Race: A run/walk event.
- Coordinating Ventilation Lecture: A professional course on firefighting tactics.
- Combination Package: Includes both the 5K race and the lecture.
The 5K starts and finishes at Keating Hall, which is the home of Brockton Firefighters Local 144. After the race, the lecture "Coordinating Ventilation: Supporting Extinguishment & Survivability" will be presented by Deputy Chief Nicholas Papa of the New Britain Fire Department. The lecture aims to provide an operational framework for ventilation decisions in firefighting.
Additional Details
Registration for the 5K opens earlier on the event day. The event includes various race divisions and awards, such as a Firefighter Team Challenge for three-person teams and top finisher awards in multiple age categories. It is open to both the general public and fire service members. Refreshments are served inside the union hall, and pizza is provided for lecture attendees. The first 50 registered entrants receive a free event T-shirt. All proceeds benefit the LND Foundation in honor of Matthew L. Flaherty.
