Citizens Pell Bridge Run
The Citizens Pell Bridge Run is a timed four-mile run and walk held across the bridge. The event is open to participants of all ages and speeds and records chip-timed results.
The 2026 edition marks the 15th annual running and is scheduled for August 30, 2026. Registration opened May 1; the 2026 field is 100 percent sold out. Since 2011 more than 46,000 runners and walkers have crossed the bridge as part of this event.
The run is organized as a not-for-profit and 100 percent of net proceeds support local organizations. For safety, everyone on the bridge must be registered, including children. Participants are required to clear the bridge within one hour after the last participant crosses the start line, which requires a pace of about 3 mph; participants unable to maintain that pace may be escorted off the bridge by race officials. Strollers and pets are not permitted on the bridge.
The event takes place during a single day when pedestrians are permitted to cross the bridge on foot. Moving the race to August affects local parking; parking in Newport is limited on race day. Shuttle options and remote parking locations are used, and no parking is available at the Jamestown start while drop-off on East Shore Road is permitted.
