Christmas in Lafreniere Park Run/Walk
Christmas in Lafreniere Park Run/Walk is a holiday run and walk held on December 5, 2026 in Lafreniere Park, Metairie, Louisiana. The event uses a 2-mile course that travels through the park and finishes near the walking lights display. The race is popular with families and many participants use strollers or run with children alongside them.
Registration fees range from $30 to $40 depending on registration date. Children ages 3 to 10 receive a $5 discount. Children ages 2 and under may participate for free but do not receive a race bib or shirt. Entry fees are non-refundable. All registrants receive a race shirt with children sizes available, a commemorative bib, and complimentary entrance to the Lafreniere Park Lights Display for both the walking and driving tours.
Early packet pick-up is available on Wednesday 12/2/26 at Raising Cane’s, 4036 Veterans Blvd, Metairie, LA 70006, and Thursday 12/3/26 at the Lafreniere Foundation Center, 3000 Downs Blvd, Metairie, LA 70003. Race day packet pick-up is available in Lafreniere Park on Downs Blvd near the Carousel. There is parking inside the park; if park street gates are closed, parking outside and entering through the walk-in gate at Downs Blvd is an option.
Pre-race festivities include photos with Santa, a Kids Fun Zone with free Carousel rides and face painting, Community Coffee and hot chocolate, snacks, and holiday music. After the event, participants have access to the walking light tour before the general public and food trucks will be on-site. The race bib serves as free admission to the lights display on race day only.
The Lafreniere Park Holiday Lights Display features over 10 million LED lights and exhibits such as a Hot Wheels display, a Hello Kitty figure, animal hanging ornaments, a lighted 60-foot Sea Serpent in the lagoon, a princess and castle display, a gingerbread man, and a walk-through exhibit.
