Chisholm Trail Adventure Race

The Chisholm Trail Adventure Race is a multi-discipline endurance event held in Kopperl, Texas, with most race activity in the area near Lake Whitney, roughly 60 minutes south of DFW. The event retraces historical Chisholm Trail routes and combines paddling, mountain biking, and trekking. Competitors must navigate to checkpoints using maps and compasses; official race maps are distributed just before the race begins.

The event includes two timed formats:

  • 24-hour adventure race
  • 12-hour adventure race

Races are sanctioned by the United States Adventure Racing Association (USARA) and the Adventure Racing World Series (ARWS). Course features include paddling on the Brazos River and navigation across varied terrain while searching for checkpoints. The race offers multiple team and solo categories, including two-person, three-person, and four-person team classes as well as solo divisions. Entry fees listed for the events are $250 for the 24-hour race and $175 for the 12-hour race, with registration closing on March 20, 2026. Final course routes and checkpoint locations are provided to participants at race briefing prior to the start. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
