Quest of the White Wolf
The Quest of the White Wolf, also referred to as Cold Rock, takes place in Chimney Rock, North Carolina. This event follows an out and back route that highlights the scenic features of the local landscape, including a waterfall viewed from both the bottom and the top, as well as several overlooks.
Participants can choose from three main distances:
- 50 km
- 25 km
- 10 km
The course begins at a shelter and leads onto the Four Seasons Trail. The route includes a section of stairs totaling 1,000 steps in one direction as runners head toward an observation deck and the top of the waterfall. Each loop features an elevation gain of 1,883 feet. The course is marked with red ribbon and yellow arrows to guide participants through the terrain.
The aid station is stocked with water, Tailwind, and various sodas. Food options typically include pickles, cereal, pretzels, candy, fruit, and bacon. First aid supplies are also available at the station. For safety reasons, trekking poles, dogs, and strollers are not permitted on the course.
The event has a total time limit of 10 hours. Finishers receive unique, handmade pottery medals where no two items are identical. While registration is open to both runners and walkers, participants must be able to complete their chosen distance within the designated cutoff time.
