Chicagoland SCADaddle 5K Walk & Run for Research
The Chicagoland SCADaddle is the 13th annual event to raise funds for research into Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD). SCAD is described as a little known and poorly understood cause of heart attack that disproportionately affects younger healthy women, pregnant women, and new mothers, and can also affect men.
The main event is a chip timed 5K run and walk at Danada Forest Preserve in Wheaton, Illinois. The USATF certified 5K course runs through and around the park on varied terrain, including crushed cinder, concrete, sidewalk, and grass. Participants may complete the course at their own pace on the trails.
An opening ceremony precedes the run. After the race there are refreshments, vendors, a SCAD store, and additional activities. Awards are given to the overall male and female winners; 2nd and 3rd place male and female overall receive medals or recognition. Medals or recognition are also given to the top three males and females in these age groups: 11 and under, 12 to 15, 16 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70 and up.
Additional scheduled activities include a SCAD Social Reunion and Presentation and a combined 5K Race and Reunion Bundle. Registration fees and open and close dates are provided for each option. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
