Chicagoland SCADaddle 5K Walk & Run for Research
The 13th annual Chicagoland SCADaddle raises funds for research into spontaneous coronary artery dissection, a form of heart attack that is poorly understood and affects many younger people. The event takes place at Danada Forest Preserve in Wheaton, IL, at 3S580 Naperville Rd.
Participants take part in a chip timed 5K walk or run on a USATF certified course that runs through and around the park. The route uses mixed surfaces including crushed cinder, concrete, sidewalk and grass and follows trails through the preserve. Registration options include the standalone 5K, a social reunion and presentation, and a combined race and reunion bundle.
The event program includes an opening ceremony, post-race refreshments, vendors and a SCAD store. Awards are presented to the overall male and female winners, with recognition for second and third place overall and medals for the top three males and females in age groups 11 and under, 12 to 15, 16 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69 and 70 and up.
The description of SCAD notes it is a leading cause of heart attacks in women under 50 as well as in pregnant women and new mothers, and that it can also affect men. Research is highlighted as necessary to identify causes and better treatments. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
