Chernisky Ghost Town Trail-a-thon

The Chernisky Ghost Town Trail-a-thon is a multi-event trail day on October 3, 2026 centered at Duman Lake County Park in Ebensburg, Pennsylvania. It is presented as the final event of the 2026 Cambria County Trails Series and includes running, adaptive device competition, and a casual group bicycle ride.

Offered distances and events:

  • Marathon 26.2 miles
  • 15 Miler 15 miles
  • 5k 5 kilometers
  • Athletes with Disabilities 5k 5 kilometers
  • Firefighter Turnout Gear 5k 5 kilometers
  • Couch Potato 0.0k novelty event
  • Group Bicycle Ride 26.2 miles

The marathon course follows trail segments from Ebensburg, uses a 2-mile C & I Trail extension through Revloc, travels along the Ghost Town Trail toward Vintondale, and connects via the Rexis Branch/C & I Extension to a recently constructed trail into Duman Lake County Park. Transportation is provided from the finish area to marathon and 15-mile start points.

The 5k, AWD 5k, and firefighter 5k are out-and-back courses beginning and ending at Duman Lake County Park. Those courses are primarily crushed gravel with some pavement and a few minor climbs. The AWD division allows non-motorized adaptive equipment and requires participants to bring any needed guides; guides must follow published restrictions and must register to receive amenities.

Logistics include advance packet pick-up at a local running store and day-of packet pick-up at the park, commemorative long sleeve shirts for pre-registered participants, finisher medals for all finishers, multiple aid stations (four full stations and three water-only stations), ADA compliant restrooms along the trail, and first aid and EMS coverage. The marathon enforces a 15 minute per mile pace limit; participants unable to maintain that pace will be offered transportation to the finish area.
