Festivus For The Rest Of Us 5k - New Florence, PA
Festivus For The Rest Of Us 5k is the sixth annual community 5k event held at the New Florence Fire Hall, 177 13th St., New Florence, PA. The event includes both a 5k run and a 5k walk. All proceeds go directly to the New Florence Volunteer Fire Company.
Packet pickup is available at the fire hall on the morning of the race. Registration follows a tiered fee schedule: $20 until November 15, then $25 until registration closes, and $30 on race day; day-of registration accepts cash or check only. T-shirts are a $10 add-on and must be ordered by November 15 at 6pm; shirts are not mailed and must be picked up at the event.
The course is exactly 3.10 miles, begins in front of the former ambulance garage by the fire hall, runs briefly on Route 711 and Boswell Road toward the state gamelands, and returns through town. The route has a net elevation gain in the first half and net decline in the second half. One water stop is located near the Laurel Hill Iron Furnace at about 1.45 miles. The event uses chip timing with results posted online; participants should wear bibs on the front for accurate timing.
Awards are given to the top 3 overall male and female finishers and top 3 in each age group (10 and under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+). The walk division also receives top 3 overall awards and age-group awards; walkers must finish within the event time limit and may be disqualified for running. Parking is at the fire hall with additional spaces at the nearby playground. The organizers request that participants follow course rules, keep pets leashed and controlled, and avoid littering.
