Chena River to Ridge : ENDURANCE NORTH
The Chena River to Ridge race is held on maintained snowmachine trails in the Chena River Recreation Area, about 30 miles east of Fairbanks. The event offers two human-powered distances and is open to skiers, cyclists, and runners.
- 55 miles
- 26 miles
The course climbs high above the valley floor and presents big ascents, fast downhills, blind turns, and views of the local hills and the Alaska Range. Trail grades rarely exceed 10 percent, so most hills are rideable for cyclists. The trail is relatively narrow and is well suited to classic skis; there are short, wider sections where skate skiing is possible.
The event limits participation to 100 entrants. Registration opens in late 2026 and is non-refundable and not transferable. Online entry fees are $90 for the 55-mile distance and $80 for the 26-mile distance, with higher fees after February 1, 2027.
Mandatory checkpoints for the 55-mile course occur at mile 26 (the 26-mile finish) and near Stiles Creek Cabin at about mile 35. Aid stations are located near Colorado Creek Cabin (about mile 8) and near the Compeau Trail intersection (about mile 16); they provide hot and cold water, electrolyte drinks, and a variety of sweet and salty snacks. A BBQ with meat and vegan options will be at the Twin Bears finish/checkpoint.
Race rules emphasize self-sufficiency and human-powered travel; dogs and motorized assistance are prohibited. Parking is limited at Twin Bears Camp (milepost 30 on Chena Hot Springs Road) with overflow parking and a $5 fee at the Compeau trailhead.
