Event Overview
The Chelmsford Marathon & Half Marathon is a road racing event held in Essex. Both distances feature accurately measured courses that often serve as good-for-age qualifying events. The routes are undulating and take participants through the tree-lined avenues of Central Park before heading out onto rural country lanes. A six-hour cut-off time is in place for these races.
Participants can choose between two distances:
- Marathon: Open to entrants aged 18 and over.
- Half Marathon: Open to entrants aged 17 and over.
Route and Facilities
The event begins at Central Park in Chelmsford, which is located less than half a mile from the town centre and the Chelmsford Railway Station. The venue includes a well-appointed event village. On the course, runners are supported by marshals from Havens Hospices, and pacers are typically available for both distances, subject to availability. Younger runners participating in the event may also have access to free heart screening through a partnership with the Carli Lansley Foundation.
Participant Support
All finishers receive a bespoke medal. Trophies and prizes are awarded to the leading runners in the event. Digital route maps and GPX files are provided to help participants prepare for the undulating terrain. This event serves as a major fundraising initiative for Little Havens Children's Hospice, which provides care for children and young people with complex or incurable conditions.
