Chase the Sun : event description
Chase the Sun is a track ultra held on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at the Russell High School outdoor 400 m track. The event offers multiple formats including timed six hour options, a full sunrise to sunset format, relay teams, and a kids event.
Direction changes occur every three hours. Lap counting and distance recording are handled by the race team and final results are based on the official lap count. One lap equals 400 m based on the inner lane.
Aid stations provide hot meals (breakfast, lunch, supper), classic snacks, electrolytes, water and coffee. Crew station spaces are available along the track for tents and tables. Participants receive a t-shirt, a finisher certificate showing laps, splits and distances, and finisher awards. Top male and female and top relay distances are awarded for each event. 100 mile finishers receive a custom belt buckle.
Race kit pickup is available the evening before and on race morning. Track rules include lane usage (lane 1 run, lane 2 pass, lanes 4–5 walkers), changing direction only after completing a lap, returning to the same spot after breaks, leaving and returning to aid from the designated area only, and staying on school property. A minimum of 20 paid solo registrants is required by May 15, 2026 or the event will be cancelled. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
