Event

Chapelfell Top Fell Race is an evening fell race organised by Durham Fell Runners and licensed and supported by the FRA. The event takes place in St John’s Chapel, Weardale, with registration opposite the Chatterbox Cafe. Minimum age is 18. Parking is available in the village and refreshments are available from the Chatterbox Cafe.

Course and route

The course is an out-and-back route of 7 km with 400 m of ascent. The route climbs to the summit of Chapelfelltop at about 700 m elevation, then returns by the same line. The route includes rough fell ground, and there are no flagged paths on the fell section. Maps are provided at registration and are also available to download.

Entry, teams and kit

Pre-entry is available and FRA members receive a reduced fee; entry on the day is also permitted. Teams are allowed, with teams of four men or three women to count. Participants are expected to have fell running experience, be confident on rough terrain and have competent navigation skills. Required kit includes a map, compass, whistle, waterproof top with hood and taped seams, waterproof bottoms with taped seams, hat and gloves; the specific kit to be carried will be confirmed on the day.
