Event Details
The Chapelfell Top fell race takes place on Tuesday 14th July 2026 in St. John's Chapel, Weardale. It is an AS-category race covering a 7km distance with 400m of ascent. The event is organized by Durham Fell Runners and is licensed by the Fell Runners Association (FRA).
Course Description
The route is an out-and-back course starting in St. John's Chapel. It heads straight up Chapelfell Top, initially on a track before moving onto open fell. The summit reaches an elevation of 703m. The terrain includes tough fell ground, and none of the route on the open fell is flagged or on paths. The return leg follows the same path back down.
Requirements and Rules
This is a race for people with fell running experience. Participants must be confident running across rough terrain and have competent navigation skills. Compulsory kit includes a map, compass, whistle, and waterproof jacket. Additional recommended kit includes a hat, gloves, and waterproof trousers. The race is run under FRA rules; the use of GPS for navigation and walking poles is not permitted.
Entry Information
Entry is available both in advance and on the day. Prices are as follows:
- Pre-entry: £4 for FRA members, £6 for non-members.
- On the day: £6 for FRA members, £8 for non-members.
Additional Information
