Chapelfell Top Fell Race : Tue 14 Jul 2026

Chapelfell Top is an AS-category fell race organised by Durham Fell Runners and supported by the Fell Runners Association. The event takes place in St John’s Chapel, Weardale (DL13 1QF) on 14 July 2026. The course is an out-and-back route with a distance of 7 km and approximately 400 m of ascent. The route rises to the summit of Chapelfell Top at about 700 m before returning by the same line.

Entry is available by pre-entry and on the day. There is a minimum age of 18. The race has permit and insurance arrangements through the FRA.

Course, kit and facilities

The route starts from the village and follows a track before crossing open fell. There are no paths on the fell section and the route is not flagged. Participants are expected to be confident on rough terrain and able to navigate. Compulsory or recommended kit includes a map, compass, whistle and waterproof clothing; additional kit such as hat and gloves may be required and final kit requirements will be confirmed on the day. GPS navigation and walking poles are not permitted under the event rules.

Parking is available in the village; participants are asked to park considerately. Refreshments are available from the Chatterbox Cafe and a nearby pub before and after the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
