Chapelfell Top Fell Race
Chapelfell Top is organised by Durham Fell Runners and is licensed and supported by the Fell Runners Association. The event is scheduled for Tuesday 14th July 2026 and takes place in St. John’s Chapel, Weardale (DL13 1QF).
The race is classified AS and covers a 7 km distance with 400 m of ascent. The route is out and back, starting in St. John’s Chapel, following a track before moving onto open fell to reach the summit of Chapelfell Top at 703 m, then returning by the same line. The fell section has no paths and the route is not flagged.
Participants must have fell running experience, be confident on rough terrain, and possess competent navigation skills. The race is run under FRA rules; use of GPS for navigation and walking poles are not permitted.
Compulsory kit includes a map, compass, whistle, and waterproof jacket. Runners should also be prepared to carry hat, gloves, and waterproof trousers if poor weather is forecast.
Entry options and fees are: pre entry FRA members £4 and non members £6; entry on the day FRA members £6 and non members £8. Refreshments will be available to buy from The Golden Lion pub and the Chatterbox Cafe before and after the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
