About the race
Durham City Run Festival stages evening road races through Durham’s World Heritage streets and a family relay day at Durham Racecourse. The festival includes two city races held on a Thursday evening and a separate Families on Track team relay on the following Saturday. Runners pass narrow cobbled streets and sections along the River Wear, with races finishing on Palace Green beneath the 900-year-old Cathedral.
Facilities and race services include a medal and goody bag for finishers, secure baggage drop, electronic chip timing, post-race massage, and prizes for the top three male and female finishers plus first in V40, V50, V60 and V70 age categories. Entry fees listed for recent events were £28.50 for the 10K, £17.50 for the 5K, and £45 per team for the family relay; a small discount has been applied in the past for UK Athletics club members.
Age and team rules vary by event. Recent minimum ages noted were 15 for the 10K and 12 for the 5K. The family relay teams have specific requirements: team size three to five members, at least one team member over 18, the team captain over 18, at least one member under 16, and a minimum participant age of 4.
