Durham City Run Festival
The Durham City Run Festival takes place in July and features a selection of races set against the backdrop of the city's historic landmarks. The event program includes evening road races through the city center and a family-oriented team activity. The World Heritage Site provides the setting for the courses, which include narrow cobbled streets and sections along the River Wear.
Participants can choose from several event options:
- 10 km road race taking place on Thursday evening
- 5 km road race taking place on Thursday evening
- Families on Track relay event held on Saturday
The 10 km and 5 km races start in the evening and conclude at Palace Green, where finishers are greeted by the 900-year-old Durham Cathedral. These courses are described as hilly and navigate through historic urban areas. The minimum age for the 5 km is 12 years, while the 10 km requires participants to be at least 15 years old.
The Families on Track event is a relay held at the Durham Racecourse. Teams must consist of three to five members, including at least one adult over 18 and at least one child under 16. The minimum age for participation in the relay is 4 years old.
All finishers receive a medal and a goody bag. The event provides electronic chip timing, a secure baggage drop, and post-race massage services. Prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers, as well as winners in various age categories from V40 to V70. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
