Event overview

The South Downs Way 100® is a non-stop, 100 mile foot race along the South Downs Way National Trail on Saturday 13 June 2026. The course covers 100 mi / 161 km with approximately 12,700 ft / 3,800 m of elevation. Terrain is mainly trail, listed as 85% trail and 15% road. The route begins just outside Winchester and follows the chalk ridgeway east to Eastbourne, finishing on the athletics track at Eastbourne Sports Club. The event uses a 30 hour overall cut-off and has a per-runner capacity of 600 starters.

Logistics and race services

There are a minimum of 12 official aid stations, full medical support and a fully marked course. Mandatory equipment must be carried at all times; examples include a charged mobile phone, at least 1 litre water capacity, survival blanket, waterproof jacket with sealed seams, whistle, headtorch and back-up light (minimum 100 lumens from Washington onwards), a separately carried long-sleeved top and a cup. A one hour time penalty applies if mandatory kit is missing. Pacers are permitted from Kithust Hill Crew Point (mile 50); multiple pacers may be used in the final 50 miles but only one may accompany a runner at a time. One crew vehicle per runner is allowed at listed crew points and requires a crew pass.
