Event details
The South Downs Way 100® is a non-stop 100 mile (161 km) foot race on Saturday 13 June 2026. The event starts at Matterley Bowl and finishes at Eastbourne Sports Club Athletics Track. Total ascent is listed as 12,700 ft (3,800 m). The overall cut off is 30 hours. The published entry fee is £220 (£222 for unaffiliated entries). Minimum age is 20. Entries open 12 July 2025 and close 5 June 2026. The field capacity is shown as 600 starters and entries recorded so far are 353. The race is part of the Gran Canaria World Trail Majors Series.
Course, support and rules
The route follows the South Downs Way National Trail from just outside Winchester to Eastbourne, largely on the chalk ridgeway. Terrain is listed as 85% trail and 15% road. The course is marked with National Trail acorn posts and event markers. There are a minimum of 12 official aid stations, full medical support and live tracking. Pacers are permitted from the Kithurst Hill crew point (mile 50). Each runner may have one crew vehicle and must use a crew pass to access listed locations.
Qualification requires completion of at least a 50 mile race within 15 hours between 1 January 2020 and race day. Drop bags are provided at Washington (mile 54), Housedean (mile 76) and the finish; bags must not exceed 45 x 25 x 25 cm. A list of mandatory items is enforced, including a charged mobile phone, 1 litre water capacity, survival blanket, waterproof jacket, whistle, headtorch and backup (required from Washington onwards), and a long sleeve layer.
