Overview
The South Downs Way 100 (SDW100) is a 100 mile non-stop foot race. The 15th edition will be held on 13 June 2026. It is part of the GranCanaria World Trail Majors series.
Course and Terrain
The point-to-point route covers the entire length of the South Downs Way National Trail. The course is 85% trail and 15% road. It starts near Winchester and finishes in Eastbourne, following the chalk ridgeway. The terrain includes rolling hills, exposed chalk paths, and sections that can become muddy or slippery. The course is marked with pink ribbons and arrows, in addition to the permanent trail markers.
Support and Logistics
There are 12 fully stocked aid stations along the route, offering food, drinks, and hot items in the later stages. The race provides overnight camping at the start line, live tracking, medical support, and finish line hot food. The overall time limit is 30 hours, with strict cut-offs at each aid station. Registration and the start are at Matterley Bowl.
Entry and Awards
General entry costs £220. A qualification standard is required: completion of a 50-mile race within 15 hours between 1 January 2020 and race day. All finishers receive a buckle. A special "100 miles - One Day" buckle is awarded for sub-24-hour finishes. Trophies are awarded to the top three men and women and to age category winners. Pacers are allowed from mile 50, and one crew vehicle is permitted at designated points.
Mandatory Kit
Runners must carry mandatory equipment at all times, including a waterproof jacket, survival blanket, charged mobile phone, headtorch (from Washington aid station onwards), and a long-sleeved base layer. Trail shoes are advised. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
