South Downs Way 100
The South Downs Way 100 is a 100 mile non-stop foot race along the South Downs Way National Trail, running from just outside Winchester to Eastbourne. The route follows the chalk ridgeway and passes rolling hills, ancient forts, villages and coastal views across southern England. Distance is 100 miles / 161 km with total ascent of 12,700 ft (3,800 m). The course is approximately 85% trail and 15% road and is fully marked with National Trail posts plus event markers.
Runners are supported by a minimum of 12 stocked aid stations, full medical cover, live tracking and a marked course. Hot drinks are available from Houghton onwards and hot food is provided at Washington and at the finish. The event enforces a 30 hour time limit and strict cut offs at aid stations. Pacers are permitted from Kithust Hill (mile 50) and crews may access runners only at listed crew points; one crew vehicle per runner is allowed with a crew pass required.
Mandatory kit is required throughout the race and includes a charged mobile phone, water capacity of at least 1 litre, survival blanket, waterproof jacket with sealed seams, whistle, headtorch and backup light from Washington, a long sleeved warm layer kept dry, and a cup or mug. Drop bags are collected at specified aid stations and at the finish. Entry fee is £225 and the event has a field size of 600 starters.
