South Downs Way 100
The South Downs Way 100 is a nonstop 100 mile (161 km) foot race along the South Downs Way National Trail on 12 June 2027. The route follows the chalk ridgeway from just outside Winchester to Eastbourne, passing rolling hills, ancient forts, villages and coastal views. Total climb is about 12,700 ft (3,800 m). The terrain is mostly trail, approximately 85 percent, with about 15 percent road.
Runners are supported by a minimum of 12 fully stocked aid stations, live tracking, course markings and a dedicated race medical team including rapid response cars and an ambulance. The event uses a 30 hour overall cut off and enforces strict aid station cut offs. The finish is on Eastbourne Sports Club athletics track where finishers complete a lap of the track; runners may be accompanied on the final lap by friends and family.
Mandatory equipment must be carried throughout the race and lights are required from Washington onwards. A one hour time penalty applies for any missing mandatory item. Pacers are permitted from mile 50 and one crew vehicle per runner may access designated crew points with a crew pass. Drop bags are accepted for specified aid stations and the finish with size limits and collection windows.
Awards include a 100 mile finisher buckle and separate buckles for sub 24 hour finishes and other multi edition milestones. Entry fee is £225. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
