Event

The South Downs Way 100 is a non-stop foot race held on 13 June 2026 that follows the entire South Downs Way National Trail. The organised start and registration take place at Matterley Bowl and the race finishes at Eastbourne Sports Club Athletics Track. The official distance is 100 miles (161 km) with approximately 12,700 ft (3,800 m) of elevation gain. The course is predominantly trail – about 85% trail and 15% road – and is marked with National Trail acorn posts plus additional race ribbons and arrows. The event is supported by full medical cover and a minimum of 12 official aid stations. The overall time limit is 30 hours.

Race details

Qualification requires completion of a minimum 50 mile race within 15 hours between 1 January 2020 and race day. Drop bags are accepted for specific aid stations (Washington - mile 54; Housedean - mile 76; and the finish) and must meet the organiser’s size and labelling rules. Pacers are permitted from Kithurst Hill crew point (mile 50) and may travel on foot only; multiple pacers are allowed but only one may accompany a runner at a time. One crew vehicle per runner is permitted at specified access points and crew vehicles must display a crew pass. Mandatory kit is required throughout the race and includes items such as a charged mobile phone, minimum 1 litre water capacity, survival blanket, waterproof jacket, whistle, headtorch and backup light (lights required from Washington onwards).
