Event overview
The South Downs Way 100® is a 100 mile non-stop foot race on Saturday 13 June 2026. The route follows the South Downs Way National Trail from just outside Winchester to Eastbourne. The event is part of the Gran Canaria World Trail Majors Series. The published field size is 600 starters, and the overall time limit is 30 hours.
Course, support and rules
The course covers 100 mi (161 km) with approximately 12,700 ft (3,800 m) of ascent. Terrain is listed as about 15% road and 85% trail. The route is marked using South Downs Way marker posts plus event markers. Runners are supported by a minimum of 12 aid stations carrying food and drinks, full medical support, and live tracking. Drop bags are accepted at Washington (mile 54), Housedean (mile 76) and the finish. Pacers are permitted from Kithurst Hill crew point (mile 50) and only one pacer may accompany a runner at a time. One crew vehicle per runner is allowed and access points are restricted to listed locations.
Mandatory equipment must be carried at all times and includes a mobile phone, water capacity of at least 1 litre, survival blanket, waterproof jacket, whistle, headtorch and backup light (required from Washington onwards), long-sleeved spare layer and a cup. Qualification requires completion of at least a 50 mile race within 15 hours between 1 January 2020 and race day. Finishers receive 100 mile buckles with different buckles for sub-24 hour finishes.
