Catoctin 50k Trail Run & Half Cat - June 20, 2026
The event is staged in Cunningham Falls State Park and Gambrill State Park near Frederick, MD. It offers two distances on the Catoctin Blue Trail: a 50K out and back that starts and finishes at the Manor parking area, and a 25K "Half Cat" that starts at the High Knob turnaround and finishes at Manor. The course is rocky singletrack with sustained climbs, extensive tree cover, and several stream crossings. The trail is permanently blazed with light blue paint and is not marked with temporary ribbons or chalk.
There are three staffed aid stations providing six aid opportunities plus start and finish support. Stations are stocked with water, sports drink, snack foods, bananas and a small selection of electrolytes and packaged items. All runners are required to carry at least one 20 oz water bottle; carrying additional hydration is recommended. Bathrooms are available at Manor and the High Knob turnaround.
Field limits are stated for each distance and registration includes park fees. Refund policy: a 75% refund is available by May 19; no deferrals or bib transfers. Crews are allowed only at Manor, Hamburg Road aid station and High Knob; crews at other locations lead to disqualification. Parking is limited and carpooling is encouraged; fees collected support a local civic organization. Finish recognition is informal and includes a collectible Cat or Half Cat card.
