Capt. Sisson Memorial 5K
The Capt. Sisson Memorial 5K is a community event held in Fairfax Station, Virginia, at Burke Lake Park. The race honors the legacy of a firefighter who served the DC area for over four decades. All proceeds from the event are directed to the Firefighter Cancer Support Network, an organization that provides cancer awareness, prevention training, and support resources for firefighters and their families.
Participants can choose between two primary distances:
- 5K
- 1-Mile Walk
The course consists of a scenic trail through Burke Lake Park that is partly unpaved. While the 5K is a timed race, the 1-Mile Walk is an untimed option open to those who wish to support the cause at their own pace. Registration is open to the general public, and first responders are eligible for a discounted entry rate.
The event includes a post-race gathering at a local brewing company in Lorton, where a portion of sales is donated back to the Firefighter Cancer Support Network. The park location at Shelter A serves as the central hub for the start and finish of the activities. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
