Event Overview
The Capernwray Mid Week Series in August is a multisport event held at the Capernwray Dive Centre in Carnforth. The series provides an opportunity for participants to take part in various disciplines on a weekday evening, including triathlons, aquathlons, aquabikes, and open water swims. The event is centered around a flooded quarry providing clear water for the swimming segments.
Distances and Categories
Participants can choose from several event formats with varying distances:
- Triathlon: 500m swim, 17.6km bike, and 4.3km run.
- Aquathlon: 500m swim and 4.3km run.
- AquaBike: 500m swim and 17.6km bike.
- Open Water Swim: Choices of 500m, 1000m, or 1500m distances.
The triathlon is also open to relay teams of three members. The minimum age for entry across all events is 15 years old.
Course Details
The competition begins with a swim in the waters of the Capernwray quarry. The cycling portion follows an undulating route through the lanes of Lancashire. The final run segment takes place on a loop along the Lancaster canal tow path.
Facilities and Logistics
The event venue features designated areas for registration, which is held either in the café or near the transition area. Facilities available to participants include free parking, toilets, and changing rooms. The organizers provide water safety cover, electronic timing, and professional photography for all entrants.
