The Canyons Endurance Runs by UTMB take place in Auburn, California, a historic gold-rush town noted as the birthplace of mountain ultras. Courses cross sections of the Western States Trail and pass landmarks such as the Rucky Chucky river crossing, Devil's Thumb, and Swinging Bridge. The event finishes downtown in Auburn.
The program offers multiple distances and notable elevation changes:
- 100M (161 km) - 5550 m+ elevation
- 100K (100 km) - 3750 m+ elevation
- 50K (50 km) - 1700 m+ elevation
- 25K (25 km) - 850 m+ elevation
The event serves as a dual qualifier for the UTMB World Series Finals and the Western States Endurance Run. The Canyons 100K is a Western States 100 Super Golden Ticket race; the top three female and male finishers at the 100K earn direct entry to the Western States Endurance Run.
UTMB Community Bibs are available for purchase and support local charities and trail stewardship. Half of the registration costs for these bibs go to a local charity chosen by the race team.
