About the race
The Budds Creek Turkey Trot is a multi-distance running event held at Budds Creek Motorsports Park in Mechanicsville, MD. The event offers three distances:
- 5k
- 10k
- Half marathon
The course uses dirt motocross and cross-country trails with frequent elevation changes and sections on a flat dirt track. The half marathon includes nine water stations at approximately mile markers 1.1, 3.1, 3.5, 5.1, 6.55, 7.65, 9.65, 10, and 12; the 10k has three water stations near miles 1.1, 3.1, and 5.1; the 5k has two water stations near miles 1.1 and 2. Gatorade will be available at some stations. Restrooms are available onsite.
Runners receive a finisher’s medal, a technical (Drifit) event shirt, and chip timing. Live results will be posted on Athlinks and final results with series points are posted the Monday after the race. A virtual race option is offered. The event benefits Blood Cancer United.
Points from the event count toward Year-Long series for 5k, 10k, Endurance, and Back of the Pack, and toward a Fall Series. The Back of the Pack time listed is 13:30; the Back of the Pack is a series classification, not a course cutoff. Race day registration and packet pickup are available; t-shirt sizes for race day registrants cannot be guaranteed.
Volunteers are assigned tasks on race morning and should arrive about 60 minutes before the first race. The organizer operates the event in all weather, with officials able to delay or change the event if necessary. Banditing is not allowed and may result in removal or disqualification.
