Inclusive Community Running in Madison
Bucky's Race for Rehab is an inclusive athletic event held at the UW-Madison Marching Band Practice Field. Sponsored by the UW-Madison Doctor of Physical Therapy Department, the event is designed for participants of all backgrounds and abilities. The race serves as a fundraiser to support various initiatives, including the purchase of rehabilitation equipment for the Dewane Neurorehabilitative Pro Bono Clinic and funding for global health student volunteer trips.
Participants can choose between two primary distances:
- 5 km Run/Walk
- 3 km Wheel/Walk
The course for the event takes place around the university campus area. Registered participants receive an event T-shirt and post-race snacks. While a display clock is provided at the field, the races are not chip-timed or certified, and results are not uploaded to a central database following the event. Awards are presented to the top three finishers in both the 5 km and 3 km categories.
The event site features on-site bathroom facilities. Free parking is available for participants in several university lots near the East Fields, including Lots 60, 39, 57, and 59. The event also features a large raffle with various prizes from local businesses and organizations. Furthermore, the non-profit organization Access Ability Wisconsin is present at the event to highlight opportunities for individuals with mobility challenges.
