About the race
Brush Mountain Breakdown is part of the RunAbout Sports 2026 Race Series and is presented by Roots Realty Group. The event is held at Pandapas Pond Day Use Area in Blacksburg, Virginia, inside the Jefferson National Forest. Three trail race distances are offered:
- 12 Miles
- 7 Miles
- 5K
All races begin and end at the upper parking lot at Pandapas Pond. Courses run primarily on single-track trails with limited sections of forest fire road. Runners will encounter climbs, descents, technical terrain, and creek crossings with water generally less than knee deep. The trails are maintained by the Poverty Creek Trails Coalition.
Registration opens September 12 and closes October 18. Fees listed are $45 for the 12 mile, $40 for the 7 mile, and $30 for the 5K. Pre-race packet pickup takes place at RunAbout Sports on the Friday before the race from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Race day packet pickup is available at the Pandapas Pond upper parking lot; look for the tent at the far end of the lot. Long-sleeve participant shirts are guaranteed for registrations on or before October 18; later registrants may choose from remaining sizes.
Aid stations: none on the 5K; the 7 mile route has an aid station at 2.5 miles; the 12 mile route has aid stations at 2.5, 4.5, 5.8, and 9 miles. Overall awards are given to the top three men and women in the 7 and 12 mile races. Age group awards for the 7 and 12 mile races are given to the first finisher in each listed age group: 18 and under, 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-69, and 70 and over.
