Bruce's Crown race

Bruce's Crown is a long-distance mountain running event covering 46 miles and more than 4000 metres of ascent. The course starts and finishes at Caldons near Glentrool, Newton Stewart, and crosses three Galloway hill ranges: the Minnigaff Hills, the Rhinns of Kells and the Awful Hand. The event accepts Solo runners and teams of 2, 3 or 4.

The route includes very few paths and can have testing underfoot conditions, so good navigation skills are required. There are two on-route cutoffs and an overall 24 hour cutoff to complete the course. Participants must be at least 18 years old.

Support on the route includes three manned checkpoints providing hot food, soup and drinks. Mountain rescue teams are stationed on the three ranges for safety and operational support during the race. If entering as a team, members must stay together and check into each checkpoint as a complete team to be eligible for team prizes.

Entry allocation uses a pre-selection list process where an initial entry does not require payment and does not guarantee a place. Entry fees stated for the event are £75 per person for Solo, £150 for a team of 2 and £300 for a team of 4. After expenditure, event proceeds will be donated to the Galloway Mountain Rescue Team toward development of their new base. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
