Event Details
The Brooklyn Cider House Spiked Apple 5K takes place at the Brooklyn Cider House in New Paltz, New York. The event is open to participants aged 1 to 98 and features a chip-timed 5K run or walk. The course consists of two laps that start and finish near the cider house entrance, touring the orchards. The cross-country style route includes areas of uneven footing and slight inclines.
Registration & Amenities
Registration includes a t-shirt, a shatterproof collapsible glass, a finisher medal that doubles as a bottle opener, a race bib, a homemade cider donut, and a pour of cider. Participants aged 1-20 receive a discounted registration that includes a shirt, medal, and bib, but not the glass or cider pour. Results are professionally timed and posted online.
Course & Rules
The event allows walking and welcomes dogs on leashes. Strollers are permitted but not recommended due to the uneven ground; children in strollers participate for free and do not need to register. A virtual participation option is available. The race proceeds rain or shine, with potential delays for severe weather.
Awards & Charity
Age group awards are given to the top three male and female finishers in ten-year categories. There is no awards ceremony; winners can pick up their awards at the registration table. The event supports a local charity, Cider Mill Friends, which works to restore a historic cider mill. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
