Brenig Way 50k Trail

The Brenig Way 50k Trail is a marked 50-kilometre trail event that follows the regional Brenig Way footpath through upland scenery in north Wales. The route begins at Green Lane Car Park, Corwen, and proceeds up the Dee Valley, crosses into Conwy county and climbs into Clocaenog Forest before reaching Llyn Brenig and finishing on the dam. Total ascent is 1450 m.

Navigation uses the existing Brenig Way waymarkers, a provided GPX file and an event map. The course covers a mixture of surfaces, including country lanes, technical climbs and descents, grassy riverside paths and forest tracks.

The event is electronically timed and each runner receives a GPS tracker. There are three staffed checkpoints with refreshments located at Glan yr Afon (11 km), Clocaenog Forest (24 km) and Cyfylliog Village (37 km). The organiser has two start waves based on estimated finish time: one for entrants planning 8 to 10 hours and one for those expecting to finish in under 8 hours.

Mandatory kit required for all participants includes a waterproof jacket and trousers, a spare base layer top, hat and gloves, a whistle, the provided map, a fully charged mobile phone and at least 500 ml of water at the start. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
