The Breaking Dawn Run/Walk is a fundraising event at Lafreniere Park, 3000 Downs Blvd., Metairie, LA. The event features the following distances:
- Breaking Dawn 5K
- Kid's Dash - 1/4 mile
The event benefits the Rewards for Reading and Scholarship Grant program. It is a fundraiser of the Dawn Busters Kiwanis Club. All proceeds are donated net of entry fees and 100% of donations.
Registration and logistics
Entry fees are tiered:
- $25 inaugural fee through December 15; $30 by January 18; $35 by January 31; $40 day of race.
- Youth and senior discounts: $20 through December 15; $25 through January 31; $30 day of race. All entry fees are nonrefundable. Proof of age is required at packet pickup for discounted entries.
Packet pickup options include a pre-race day pick up hosted by Fleet Feet-Metairie (3020 Severn Avenue) and packet pickup at the race site on race day. Registered entrants receive a race number bib and a commemorative short-sleeve unisex T-shirt; an upcharge applies for XX-Large sizes.
Awards, course and amenities
Custom finisher medallions are presented to all officially registered finishers. Awards include overall and age-division prizes for the 5K, with age groups from 14 and under up to 80 and over. A race walker division is offered; walkers must check in at the Race Walker information table on race day to be eligible. Refreshments for registered entrants include water, sports drink, fruit, snacks, and beer courtesy of a distributor; breakfast burritos are provided by the Dawn Busters Burrito Krewe.
