Breaking 3
Breaking 3 is a certified marathon held each March at Rockland Lake State Park, NY. The event is a full marathon (26.2 miles) with a USATF sanction number NY26002JRG and World Athletics certification. The field is capped at 300 participants and the course uses a multiloop criterium layout described as flat with multiple spectator views.
The race features dedicated pacers and preset pace groups currently including 2:40, 2:50, 3:00 and 3:10; additional groups may be added based on the field. Every athlete has access to personal fluids and nutrition on every loop, and there is bottle service at every aid station. A marked tangent line is provided to support accurate navigation of the course.
Entry is open without a qualifying standard, though there is a 3:25:00 time limit for official results. The event does not use wave starts and organizers state there is no congestion or lapping. Race directors host pre-race briefings to cover pacing, bottle strategy, tangent line use, and weekend logistics. Registration details listed include an early bird fee of $199 through August 14 and $225 thereafter; the field sold out for 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
